End of Term 2

The end of the Autumn term is always filled with joy as we come together as a school community to share events and celebrate student achievements. Year 7 and Year 12 students have now completed their induction and by the time you read this we will have had our festive celebration assembly.

On Monday evening we enjoyed performances from many students at our annual Carol Service which was held live for the first time at our local Church, St Michael’s. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to families for attending on a very cold winter evening!

All our Student Leadership groups have been working hard this term and have represented the Academy with local politicians, as well as planning additional activities for lunchtime. We have added more tables to the library, so it is now a space used for games and reading at social times (we have some expert Uno players in school!) and we also have new basketball facilities at the back of school. In the new year this will be extended to lunchtime table tennis and as soon as it is a little warmer, students will also be able to use the 3G pitch at lunchtime (with the right boots of course).

The cost of living continues to increase and I am ever aware of students who may not be able to or have the chance to eat breakfast before they arrive at school. From January I am delighted that we are launching a free breakfast club and any student will be able to go to Dining and receive a free breakfast of either porridge or a bagel. This will start on the first week back and will be from 8:15am to 8:30am every day.

Most terms we are sad to say goodbye to some staff and this term we give our very best wishes to Miss Owen and Miss Newell who are moving to pastures new and Mrs Milford who I think every family knows!

Mrs Milford has been part of the Academy since 2013. Over this time her dedication and commitment to supporting students has been outstanding and she leaves the Academy happy in the knowledge that our inclusive ethos is at the heart of who we are as a school. We know she will be brilliant in her new job as a specialist SEN advisor and hope she will visit us often.

Finally, as we all stop to pause and take a break I would like to wish all our families a very Happy Christmas, I hope you can enjoy some family time and share some joy and love.

We look forward to welcoming all students back to the Academy on Tuesday, 3rd January.

Mrs Moore
