Assessment Requirements

The assessment for the Level 2 Certificate in Health and Fitness consists of:

Portfolio of evidence in relation to Principles of Health and Fitness, Healthy Lifestyles and preparing a fitness programme.

Examination covering the rest of the course content.

The qualification is graded by Pass, Merit or Distinction and equates to one good GCSE.

Course Outline

The course is divided into four distinct units. Three of the units require pupils to prepare a portfolio of evidence in relation to the topic and one unit is assessed by an external examination.

Unit 1: Principles of Health and Fitness

Pupils are introduced to the principles of health and fitness. Pupils will focus on the main components of fitness and study the effects of exercise on the body.

Unit 2: Healthy Lifestyles

Pupils will gain knowledge of how food and physical activity can contribute to a healthy lifestyle. They will learn the importance of diet and nutrition and understand how motivation affects participation in physical activity.

Unit 3: Preparing and planning for Health and Fitness

Pupils will understand factors that affect health and fitness and must evaluate a health and fitness plan. This unit is assessed through an external examination.

Unit 4: Develop a personal health and fitness programme

Pupils are required to bring together their learning gained throughout the course and develop a health and fitness programme. They will carry out fitness tests and understand the importance of warm-ups and cool downs.

Expectations

Pupils are required to bring and wear Academy PE Kit for all practical lessons.

Pupils will be expected to produce their own working portfolio of work, which is original and doesn’t copy resources given to them.

Career Opportunities

Level 2 Certificate in Health and Fitness will allow you to progress further to a Level 3 course in Sport. This could either be the Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sport or the A Level in Physical Education. These qualifications can lead to jobs such as Fitness Instructor, work in Sports Development or enable you to enrol on a degree level course in Higher Education.
