Business Studies

About

With a focus on the world of work, the Business curriculum intends to prepare students for a smooth transition to life outside of education. Lessons are built around the business cornerstones of operations, finance, recruitment and marketing in order to find how they not only determine business success, but also their impact on individuals.

Curriculum Overview

Key Stage 4

Assessment Requirements:

At Key Stage 4, 3 units are assessed over the two-year course – two 30% coursework projects and an exam worth 40%. The coursework is a blend of practical skills (event planning, presentation, research, etc.) and theoretical knowledge. Key Stage 5 follows a similar structure – 6 units comprised of two exams and four projects.

Expectations

Home learning will be set as necessary to support with coursework or exams. These might consist of mock exam tasks, research tasks, planning tasks, or revisiting previous lessons.

Career Opportunities

Business Studies pushes pupils to consider the wider world around them, and to think about the impact developments have on each other. This will aid in any career path, and allows quick progression within businesses. Pupils with a qualification in Business can expect managerial positions, and will have a better idea of how self-employment works. Many pupils also go on to study Business Studies or related subjects (Fashion, Accounting, Management, etc.) at Key Stage 5 and University.
