End of Term 3

As Term 3 draws to a close it has been a fast and furious five weeks! Despite the chilly temperatures there has been lots going on both inside and outside the classrooms. We started the term with our Challenge Partners Review. During the three days we had five senior leaders from other schools nationally who reviewed our Quality of Education. The review was very positive and the reviewers were very impressed with our students and the way they could talk about their work.

Another highlight of the term has to be the Extended Learning Day. There were over 30 local employers and friends of Sarum in the Academy for the Year 7 Aspiration Day, the Year 8 Staying Safe Day and the Year 10 and 12 Mock Interviews. All were a huge success and I am immensely grateful to members of our wider community who give up their time to support our young people.

Congratulations to Year 8 and 9 artists for their work which has been selected for the Salisbury Schools Art Exhibition! This is being held in the Young Gallery, Salisbury Library (upstairs) - if you are in Salisbury over half term, do pop in and see it!

Year 11 and Year 13 are busy preparing for their second set of Mock Exams which commence on the first day back after half term and signals their final stretch to the Summer exam season. If your child is in these years they deserve plenty of encouragement as they revise over next week. The whole school community will be looking to support them too!

Term 4 starts with our annual ‘Check it Out’ week. This is always a very uplifting week to coincide with Lent. The Bridge will be leading the week and DJ Jozzy is back again (he loves Sarum students!). You can see the poster nside from our Chaplain Mel and the theme of the week is based around ‘our story’.

We have now confirmed our calendar dates for next academic year (2024-2025). This is as early as we could this year, so that it helps you with any future holiday planning. There is a copy at the end of the newsletter and it is also on our website in the Parent section.

Thank you for all the hundreds of stakeholder surveys completed, it is much appreciated. The results were very positive and I am delighted the vast majority of parents feel their children are happy and safe in school and you feel there is good academic provision. From the survey results, we will be sharing more widely to parents how we support students’ wider personal development and this will form the launch of our new Wellbeing Plan in September 2024.

Finally, it is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Miss Fox today. Miss Fox has been at the Academy for seven years and in that time she has supported hundreds of students. As a member of the leadership team she has had overall responsibility as our Designated Safeguarding Lead and has been an integral part of creating a culture which is based on positive relationships. Through her work on restorative practice she has provided some wonderful opportunities for our students to take part in conferences and has developed the restorative ambassadors group which has a really positive impact across the school. Miss Fox is leaving us to take on the role of setting up an Alternative Provision locally and this is an area many parents will know Miss Fox is very passionate about. Fortunately this means, although it is goodbye from Sarum, a small number of students may be able to access another alternative provision and it will be great to see a familiar face. We wish her all the very best as she starts her new role after half term.

I hope you and your family have a good break over the half term and I look forward to seeing all students in Term 4.
