End of Term 4

Term 4 has certainly flown by and this week Reverend Martin has been taking our Easter assemblies. This was followed by our normal high energy Celebration assemblies on Thursday where we celebrate student achievement and have some fun together.

You will see inside the Newsletter a write up from Mel McDaniel about Check it Out! Week. This is always a highlight of the year and it was a very enjoyable week as usual. Mel is now a full member of our staff and joins us from The Bridge as our very first Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner. Mel is well known by all our students and we are looking forward to her working with us to further promote wellbeing of both students and staff.

Next term you will receive a letter from Mr Lean, Assistant Headteacher, who leads Teaching and Learning across the Academy. He will be asking your views on our current Homework Policy. Please do give your thoughts, so you can help shape the next phase of this important work.

With Term 5 just around the corner, I would like our whole school community to focus on supporting our Year 11 and Year 13 students as we enter exam season. If you are in Year 11 or have a child in Year 11 then please take advantage of the Easter revision sessions. Staff are giving up their holiday to provide this valuable support and remember that hard work pays off - it is essential you are revising over Easter!

The start of next term will see Year 10 students heading out into our community to do a week of work experience. I have just enjoyed reviewing everyone’s placements and I am delighted to see so many local primary schools and businesses hosting our students. Work Experience week is always such a rewarding experience and I very much look forward to seeing some pictures and hearing all about the placements on your return. Be confident Year 10, you’ll be great!

After the Easter break hopefully, we will be able to enjoy some better weather and the majority of students will be outside during social times. Many students enjoy using the table tennis tables and basketball / football nets at break and lunchtimes and we will be continuing to purchase additional equipment for the summer terms.

As we look towards planning for next September, we are looking forward to welcoming another large Year 7 cohort. This means that we need more space, so we will be developing the building at the front of the school to be our new Sixth Form Block. This will mean we can accommodate more students in the Sixth Form and they will have an enhanced environment. It also means we need to continue recruiting some additional teachers and I am delighted to say that we have already appointed some great teachers for September.

Finally, congratulations to all students who have received bronze, silver and values badges this term - we are very proud of each and every student!

I hope that all our families and friends of the Academy have a wonderful Easter break and we look forward to seeing all students return on Monday, 15th April.
