End of Term 6

What an end to the year! Term 6 seems to have flown by and the last two weeks have been an absolute celebration of all things Sarum, ending in our first LIVE celebration assembly since Covid. It was lots of fun and a superb end to the year!

Congratulations to all students who were awarded certificates and awards at Prize Giving last week, it is wonderful to see so many young people working hard and achieving more! Our most prestigious prize – ‘The Bishops Award’ was presented to Bobby White. Bobby has completed seven years at the Academy and epitomises our Academy values. He has served our school community as our Head Student this year, supported the PE team with enrichments and more recently has supported as a mentor for younger students. Well done Bobby!

When we return in September (Monday, 4th September for Year 7 & 12 and Tuesday, 5th September for all other years) we will be continuing our phone free school environment which has been very successful this year. Yondr pouches should be stored safely until September. All students should be ready to learn as they arrive – uniform, PE kit and full equipment (including a bag), so that they can focus on learning rather than having to be corrected at the start of the day. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

After very few teachers leaving us for the past three years we have a flurry moving on to pastures new in September. Mrs Lynch, Mr Howell and Mr Hazine are relocating to different parts of the country and Mr Gough, Mr Humphreys, Miss Ratcliffe, and Miss Brewer are moving to schools closer to home. Mr Leyland and Mr Maddison are also moving on to new posts and we wish them all well.

There are two members of staff who deserve a very special mention. Miss Russell, Head of Maths is taking a year out of teaching but has served the Academy for a whole decade and has not only taught hundreds of students but also redesigned our full maths curriculum so students can excel in this important curriculum area.

Finally, Mrs Bell is retiring this year. She has not only served the Academy since it opened in September 2010 but also the schools before it. In total Mrs Bell has been teaching Salisbury students on this site for a huge total of 21 years! For the last few years she has been team leader for the important area of PSHCE & Health & Social Care, and has had some incredibly rewarding moments such as students who have studied first aid having the confidence to help adults when accidents have happened. Above everything else though is Mrs Bell’s positive regard for every single young person at Sarum. Her belief that students can achieve all they put their mind to has meant students in her care have excelled.

Recently Mrs Bell has been quite poorly and receiving treatment at Salisbury district hospital. To celebrate her long tenure with us next year we will be raising funds for the Stars Appeal, including taking part in the Walk for Wards in July 2024 as #TEAM SARUM. We’re delighted Mrs Bell has recovered enough to join us for Prize Giving and Celebration Assembly and wish her the very best for her retirement.

That brings us to a close for this academic year. I hope the summer break will allow you the opportunity for family time and some new experiences.  I am heading to Wales for some fresh air and time with my girls, nieces and nephews!

Stay safe, have a fantastic break and I look forward to seeing you all in September.
