Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

In Year 7, each child is given a main language to study (either French or Spanish), which they learn for 3 hours per fortnight. They also have 1 hour of the other language, plus 1 hour of German, giving them a broad introduction to language learning.

  • In Year 8, students have 3 hours of French and 2 hours of Spanish.

  • In Year 9, their focus is on French, with 4 hours per fortnight.

Maths, English and Science

To make sure students are well prepared for the demands of the curriculum, students now receive:

  • 8 hours of Maths per fortnight

  • 7 hours of English per fortnight

  • 7 hours of Science, rising to 8 hours in Year 9

This allows us to cover the curriculum in greater depth and support strong progress in these core subjects.

Information Technology (IT)

IT is taught throughout all of KS3.

  • In Year 7, students have 1 hour per fortnight.

  • In Years 8 and 9, IT is taught through a carousel with Food Technology, giving students a balance of digital and practical skills.

We are aiming to increase IT teaching time in the future as digital skills become increasingly important.
